I see the same problem on amd64 too. You can reproduce this with $ wget http://d-i.debian.org/daily-images/amd64/20101014-00:17/netboot/mini.iso $ dd if=/dev/zero of=root.img bs=1M count=0 seek=4k $ qemu-system-x86_64 -hda root.img -cdrom mini.iso and answering the questions just like I indicated in the previous mail.
