I have Debian (LXDE) working on EEE PC 701.
Upgraded from Lenny to Squeeze. There were some problems i remember.
Most probably, it is because Debian removed non-free firmware files.
Did you try full install ISO image?

Sorry if I used the wrong message format, I don't get Debian installed and so I
do not get reportbug running.
Installation does not work on EeePC 701.
I used the netinstall image (debian-6.0.3-i386-netinst.iso), dd'ed it to a
SD-card and rebooted the EeePC.
It looks like the Ethernetadapter Atheros L2 100 Mbit (rev a0) and the WLAN
Adapter Atheros AR5007EG 802.11 b/g Wireless PCI Express Adapter (rev 01) are
both not working.
I tried to modprobe the corresponding modules, but the modules are not in the
image.
Since Netzwork does not work the installer tries to find a CD-ROM drive which I
do not have.
The only option left is to stop the installation.
Is there a kernel and initrd files which I can copy into the SD-card to resolve
the problem?
Regards Richard
