Does CTRL-ALT-F1 count?

In KDE, right click on the installer icon. Then

   Properties/Application/Advanced Options/Run in terminal

Launch d-i and use ALT-TAB. From the terminal's file menu you can get a
shell to run a browser. Something similar can be done with Xfce.
