I did not use the shell to change things before observing the bug. In both cases, there were existing partitions on the disks, I don't know if this could be a factor I agree the use case of two PVs on a single HDD is not so common, but the bug could actually be revealing some deeper flaw in the partman logic that may also manifest itself in other ways.
