Since you used a DVD for installation, you have the possibility to
choose the desktop environment directly after booting the installer
under
Advanced options -> Alternative desktop environments ---> KDE
---> LXDE
---> Xfce
If you use the default menu entry (like "Install" or "Graphical
install") from the root of the menu, you get Gnome (as you have reported).
