Just one user’s two cents worth…

It’s not just i386/amd64. A PowerPC Macintosh would be another example. Any
arch that can install with a console that supports switching between screens
with “<alt>-Fn” does not benefit from having screen be default. It’s only when
one is installing from a serial console (i.e. non-video) that it would be
useful to have screen be the default.

Personally, I’d rather have the ability to specify DEBIAN_FRONTEND=newt when I
need it, and have the default be to not have it. Even better would be to
request it at the “Load installer components from CD” stage, analogous to
“network-console: Continue installation remotely using SSH”, but I don’t know
if that’s possible.

Enjoy!
