I can confirm my earlier bug report (#139313) being related to a (probably known) bug in pcmcia-cs (#138309). I replaced the /target/sbin/probe binary with a copy of /target/bin/true (doing the testing on a slow machine is a benefit, there was about 3-minute window between unpacking and configuring of pcmcia-cs). After this change, the installation process proceeded without any trouble.
