Please disregard my previous message. I did find the "basedebs.tar"
and sucessfully built a boot CD with the 2.4 image. Sadly the
original problem remains. The Toshiba Satellite 1115-S103 still hangs
when booting 2.4. It gets as far as:

        Compaq SMART2 Driver (v 2.4.21)
        Compaq CISS (v 2.4.5)

then hangs. It sure looks as though it's necessary to get a kernel
without the "Compaq" drivers, or at least be able to disable them at
boot time?

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
-Marsh
