Thanks for the reply, Thorsten. your success is encouraging, but i'm still confused about how to boot the bf24 kernel. is it on the woody cd already? is it actually a floppy, b/c i thought debian for hppa did not support booting from floppy. there is no boot prompt at which to type anything. after i type 'boot scsi.2.0', the install just takes off.

Woody with bf24 works here on both of my HP 9000 machine (712/60,712/80)
Try to boot with this kernel, and load the required scsi modules.
