Debian-installer-version: 2004 November 12, gotten from http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer uname -a: Linux localhost 2.4.22-1-586tsc #5 Sat Oct 4 14:32:35 EST 2003 i586 Date: 2004 November 12, 03:00 Method: Booted of floppies, installed by network, no proxy, http://ftp.no.debian.org Machine: Evercom Pentium System Processor: Pentium 100 Memory: 48 MB Root Device: IDE /dev/hda, no other discs Root Size/partition table: 1180MB, N/A Output of lspci: N/A Base System Installation Checklist: Initial boot worked: [O] Configure network HW: [E] Config network: [O] Detect CD: [ ] Load installer modules: [O] Detect hard drives: [O] Partition hard drives: [O] Create file systems: [O] Mount partitions: [O] Install base system: [O] Install boot loader: [O] Reboot: [O] [O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it Comments/Problems: This machine has a isa ne2000-compatible network card, which works with the ne module provided by the net driver floppy. However, the installer doesn't ask for module parameters when run with normal priority, and there is no way to use the ne module without giving at least an io parameter. I solved this by dropping to the command line, modprobing it in, and then running the Detect Network Hardware step again to tell d-i i had network, but then d-i knows nothing about how to load the module at the next system startup. Related: When network card detection fails, the user is presented with a list of linux network card kernel modules. However, for a person who isn't already using linux, these names have no meaning. It would be better if the installer listed common network cards each module supports in addition to the module name. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
