This looks like discover is hanging when detecting the hardware not when loading modules.
Playing with it some more I discovered that if I attach an strace to an already running discover that's hung trying to close (or talk to, or something) the serial port, it wakes up and finishes. Looks like maybe there's a problem in the signal handling in discover or something?
