Yes, this is known. See also #228960.

You can get round this, but you need the very latest installer, but 
you'll hit problems further down the install process.

You might be interested in looking at http://tinyurl.com/2egza
which documents my experience with exactly the same machine, and the
workarounds I made to get a bit further before giving up. I got to
the end of 2.6, but the system was not bootable due to GRUB/LILO problems,
for which bug reports exist or were submitted.

The same document has pointers to the latest installer in section
1.2.2.

I'll update it in a couple of weeks when 'beta3' comes along :-)
