I can reproduce this on i386 with dvh partition table. However parted gives the reason of this, it says "Error: Only logical partitions (boot files) have a name.". I don't know why partman doesn't say the same, probably the debconf priority of the message is too low. Is it possible to use parted to create partition table on SGI? If yes, then it must be possible to use partman. Otherwise partman should not be used on SGI. I don't know how to setup properly dvh partition tably using parted.
