I had the same problem with the sarge-installer, hardware detection was freezing at about 90%, saying something of floppy not available and so on. When I started the installer with kernel-Parameter noapic then everything worked fine. Former installations of debian-woody and other linuxes had the same problem, i only could start with this boot-parameter.
