bdale, aj -- please see bug #232415. Apparently a deboostrapped system does not have the device nodes needed for cciss drive controllers (/dev/ssicc/discn/partn). Is this a makedev bug, or a debootstrap bug? It doesn't seem likely that it's a d-i bug.
