Package: installation-reports Debian-installer-version: On March 16, 2004, downloaded http://gluck.debian.org/cdimage/testing/sarge_d-i/i386/beta3/sarge-i386-neti nst.iso. Got link from http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/ uname -a: Never got to shell Date: March 17, 2004 Method: Used Beta-3 Sarge debian-installer on CD-ROM
Machine: Built from parts. Motherboard is ABIT-BE7. Processor: Intel Pentium 4, 3.06Mhz, w/ hyperthreading Memory: 2Gig Root Device: IDE Root Size/partition table: Never got to shell Output of lspci: Never got to shell Base System Installation Checklist: Initial boot worked: [O] Configure network HW: [O] Config network: [O] Detect CD: [O] Load installer modules: [O] Detect hard drives: [O] Partition hard drives: [O] Create file systems: [O] Mount partitions: [O] Install base system: [O] Install boot loader: [E] Reboot: [E] [O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it Comments/Problems: Resets occur after a short time when there is no user input at the "[!] Install the GRUB boot loader on a hard disk" or "[!!] Finish the installation and reboot" dialogs. The wait is approximately 13 and 3 seconds respectively This happens if I have quickly proceeded through all the previous dialogs, taking the defaults. However, if I pause for 15 minutes in the "[!!] Partition disks" dialog, then continue on to one of the two dialogs mention above, I can then wait indefinitely without the reset occurring. This is also true if I pause 15 minutes at the initial welcome screen or any of the dialogs up to "[!!] Partition disks". 15 minutes is maybe a minimum - if you only wait 10 minutes you will still have this reset problem. On those times when I am successful in getting through the "reboot" dialog quickly enough before the reset, it then resets about the time I get into the timezone dialogs. Other notes: - This problem occurs whether hyperthreading is enabled or disabled within the BIOS. - I believe this machine is in good condition - I've run Red Hat 9.0 and Debian Woody on it before without any problems. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
