uname -a: don't get that far Date: Sat Mar 27 21:08:00 CET 2004 Method: booted from the "100Mb" CDROM Machine: Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop Processor: Pentium III or Pro (not sure) Memory: 512Mb Root Device: IDE Root Size/partition table: didn't get this far Output of lspci: didn't get this far Base System Installation Checklist: Initial boot worked: [E] Configure network HW: [ ] Config network: [ ] Detect CD: [ ] Load installer modules: [ ] Detect hard drives: [ ] Partition hard drives: [ ] Create file systems: [ ] Mount partitions: [ ] Install base system: [ ] Install boot loader: [ ] Reboot: [ ] Comments/Problems: I boot from the 100Mb CD. I press ENTER at the "Press F1 for help, or ENTER to boot:" prompt. It loads the kernel. I am prompted "Choose language" and accept the "en_US" default. I am prompted "Select a keyboard layout" and accept the "American English" default. The it says "Detecting Hardware" and the progress bar goes all the way. Then it says "Loading components of the Debian installer" and the progress bar goes all the way. Then it says "Detecting hardware", goes only to 95%, (at which point it is saying "Skipping unavailable module "ide-floppy' for 'Linux IDE floppy'") and there it hangs. I waited 1 hour so it *really* had hung. Need more info? Let me know.. Alexis Huxley [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble?
