Package: installation-reports Version: beta 3
I sent this previously with the wrong package ("installer") above.
When I use the installer from the beta 3 iso image (downloaded from the main site on 1 April 2004) to try and install, it fails to configure either of my network adapters. I get the same problem if I use the jigdo ISO image dated 3 April 2004 of Sarge. I presume they use the same installer. The adapters are Realtek 8139 and VIA VT6103 based. They are detected and configured correctly by woody 3.0r1 installer. The modules mii.o, crc32.o, 8139too.o and via-rhine.o are present in the lib/modules/2.4.25-1-386/kernel/drivers/net/ directory.
If I use the expert mode to install I am advised that there may be a problem and that I may have to add additional modules on floppy.
When I go into second stage install, and I avoid any access of the internet in response to the prompts to avoid any problems. However, the system still seems to attempt to access the LAN/Ethernet and I get the following error repeated many times, when I try and Select Packages to Install:
NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0: Transmit timed out eth0: link up 100Mbs, full duplex, lpa 0x45E1
This repeats a number of times. If I then unplug the ethernet
connection, I'll get "eth0 Link down" and the install hangs. If I leave
it, I get back to the prompt screen ("next action") but the NETDEV error
comes through the text and the install hangs.I hope this helps.
