FYI, I'm creating alternative X configuration tool inspired from Knoppix. This is consisted by some packages. * tettei-xconfig (X configuration tool) * kudzu-mini (simple Kudzu, device detection. you can use kudzu package also instead of this) * ddcxinfo-knoppix (DDC interaction tool) You can get: deb http://kmuto.jp/debian/experimental ./ deb-src http://kmuto.jp/debian/experimental ./ 1. Install Sarge. 2. Add above apt-line into your /etc/apt/sources.list. 3. Run 'apt-get install tettei-xconfig kudzu-mini' 4. xserver-xfree86 debconf asks you about configuration, but these setting will be overwritten. 5. Run 'tettei-xconfig'. This tool talks with discover and kudzu automatically and makes /etc/X11/XF86Config-4. Some value will be copied to xserver-xfree86 debconf. BUGS: * Many many bugs are still there :-) * Sometime USB mouse detection will be failed because USB bus controller driver isn't loaded. * I didn't test kernel 2.6 well yet. (Maybe mouse device filename should be changed) * Too few keyboard maps. * discover is only for detecting video card, kudzu is only for detecting mouse. It looks wasteful. I'll be more happy if discover provides elegant detection about mouse and DDC information.
