Package: installation-reports

Debian-installer-version: rc3
uname -a: (I would but need the network to be configured to get to it)
Date: 25-03-2004
Method: cd install

Machine: Compaq DL380G3
Processor: Intel
Memory: >1G
Root Device: cciss (smartarray 5i)
Root Size/partition table: 32G / + small boot
Output of lspci:
(network not configured fully yet so can't get to it)

Base System Installation Checklist:

Initial boot worked: [O]
Configure network HW: [O]
Config network: [O]
Detect CD: [O]
Load installer modules: [O]
Detect hard drives: [O]
Partition hard drives: [O]
Create file systems: [O]
Mount partitions: [O]
Install base system: [E]
Install boot loader: [E]
Reboot: [O]
[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it

Comments/Problems:

Great install but fails at the kernel install (mkinitrd)

Work around which suggests the fix was to cp -r /dev/cciss/disk0 to
/target/dev/cciss. I guess this shows the default /dev tree added
by the base installer isn't right for cciss controllers.

Grub failed to install anything useful something wierd in the compaq
BIOS methinks because it couldn't seem to find (hd0). Worked around
it by installing the lilo package and manually fixing up the configs.

I'm closing this report, because the mapdevfs problems were fixed after
beta3, which I assume you meant by "rc3".
