Much thanks, I appreciate all the work that's gone into getting this up and running! Something I noticed (not sure if this is intentional or not), but the aboot.conf which is used is under /boot/etc/aboot.conf (but there's still an /etc/aboot.conf). I'm assuming this is an artifact of the "aboot needs an ext2 partition" requirement, so rather than force / to be ext2, the required files have just been shoved down under /boot on a separate partition.
