Comments/Problems:
As you can see, the date/time output of 'uname -a' is completely wrong (my installation date is correct). The timezone should also be BST. I'm quite positive I selected the correct region in the installation (London), and this is what it came up with.
Now, I also said in the subject that only booting with the 'linux26' flag resulted in a working system. When I used the default 'linux' flag from the boot CD, the system installed (seemingly) correctly. However, upon rebooting into the new system, the screen became corrupt when (I think) the base-config screen should have appeared. By corrupt, I mean coloured vertical lines appeared across the screen, and it looked heavily distorted. I think I could see some characters on the screen, but each one would have filled almost half of the screen. I couldn't really do anything except type Ctrl-Alt-Delete, which didn't always work. (I tried resetting and trying again).
