This report should be merged with 268945. He reported the same
symptoms I did with a Radeon video board. It looks like this installer bug
is specific to Radeon boards. One possible fix is to eliminate all video
mode switching within debian-installer, except for tests of XF86Config-4
files with the user's explicit permission.
He also reported the same hangs during downloading installer
components that I did in another report. In my case, however, the download
never resumed. It timed out and had to be restarted. Changing mirrors had
no effect.
