Apparently the automatically generated configuration file
contains incorrect sync range directives that override those
reported by the monitor via DDC. XFree86.0.log says:

(WW) RADEON(0): config file hsync range 28-50kHz not within DDC hsync range 30-110kHz
(WW) RADEON(0): config file vrefresh range 43-75Hz not within DDC vrefresh range
50-160Hz

(II) RADEON(0): SyncMaster: Using vrefresh range of 43.00-75.00 Hz
