I have the exact same problem with the same model.
Using a pre-rc2 or nightly build with kernel 2.6 I could do a complete installation, but
then it freezes during boot.

and if that's true I will have to agree with the author of the above bug report:
"What I _really_ do not understand is why this is not seen as a serious problem."
But maybe when Dell's new model start to flood the PC market that will change ;)
Meanwhile I guess my best option is to buy a PATA harddrive.
