Package: kernel-image-2.6.8-power4-di Version: .72
Downloaded latest debian installer daily build, burnt to cd, and started off of the cd. The cd started fine, and I typed "expert-power4" to select the kernel appropriate for my xserve G5. Immediately after the message about "Loading ramdisk...", the screen went blank, then turned white, then printed the following message:
... ok Copying OF device tree...done Initializing fake screen: VTXP Calling quiesce Returning 0x01400000 from prom_init
It then froze.
Upon writing to the debian-ppc mailing list, the following patch was suggested: http://www.no-name-yet.com/patches/kernel-source-2.6.7.xserve-g5.diff
The machine is a stock Xserve G5 straight from apple. There is nothing unusual about it, and from the mailing list, it is believed to affect all XServe G5 systems. This is a relatively small patch compared to the severity of this bug. If you have any questions or want help troubleshooting the patch on an XServe G5, please don't hesitate to email me: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
