Hi, The installation in question was on a friend's home server about 100 miles from here, and apart from the distance I don't think he'd appreciate the downtime involved in my reinstalling his system!
I've still got the debian-install logfiles somewhere if they're any use, but I'm afraid I can't test the new installer on the same hardware. Thanks for all your effort and hard work, it is genuinely appreciated - just sorry I can't help in this case.
