You reported that the installer doesn't recognise your CD. I wonder if you've tried the 2.6 kernel by booting with "linux26"? Also, does this machine have a floppy drive? If so, you could tell the installer to save bug report logs to a floppy, and I'd appreciate seeing them as it would help in figuring out what the problem is.
