I can confirm the bug in Etch with gnome-applets 2.14. It does not
however seem to be present in 2.16 (or possibly because I'm running Xorg
from experimental), thus I'm closing the bug for 2.16.
I'm getting this error message when I try the view the layout:
** (gswitchit:3970): CRITICAL **: XkbGetKeyboard failed to get keyboard
from the server!
There was a similar bug reported in Ubuntu, see
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/58083 If it's the same bug this
involves the X server and might not be fixed in time for Etch.
