After over 2 hours of compiling.
So, it is currently not possibel to build a full Kernel!
And, I need to build over 30 different Kernels...

It's not clear to me why it was reassigned to tar in the first place. Manoj's
suggestions of other places to look make sense to me, and there has been no
followup in over 6 months, so I'm closing this with no further action taken.
