Specifically, a single ^D had no effect, two in a row caused it to flush the current output line, and only if I issued three in a row did it actually accept an EOF. While this is mildly annoying from a terminal, I can imagine it being a serious annoyance from, say, a tape. At the least, this behaviour should be documented in uuencode(1).
