Unfortunately, I'm not able to reproduce it anymore (I had it once as well, but can't remember the overall environment). I've just done: # apt-get install xpn=1.0.0-3 [..] $ xpn [added two groups, just for the sake of a test] # apt-get install xpn [updates xpn from sid] $ xpn Recovering groups.dat Recovering freenews.netfront.net.groups.dat Recovering subscribed.dat Recovering Group: ['it.comp.os.linux.iniziare', '430621', 'freenews.netfront.net', 'David Paleino'] Recovering Group: ['it.comp.os.linux.sys', '141271', 'freenews.netfront.net', 'David Paleino'] [xpn starts] $ It seems like something was very wrong in our environments at the time we tested it together, or probably something biased the upgrade of xpn.
