Package: gnupg
Version: 1.2.0-1
Severity: minor
Someone sent me a gnupg key. Her machine had the wrong datetime. So
when I first ran gpg to import the key, it said:
gpg: armor header: Version: GnuPG v1.2.0 (GNU/Linux)
gpg: pub 1024D/DC8080CB 2002-12-18 Ila Patnaik <[email protected]>
gpg: key DC8080CB has been created 6442 seconds in future (time warp or clock
problem)
gpg: key DC8080CB: invalid self-signature on user id "Ila Patnaik
<[email protected]>"
gpg: key DC8080CB has been created 6442 seconds in future (time warp or clock
problem)
gpg: key DC8080CB: invalid subkey binding
gpg: key DC8080CB: skipped user ID 'Ila Patnaik <[email protected]>'
gpg: key DC8080CB: skipped subkey
gpg: key DC8080CB: no valid user IDs
gpg: this may be caused by a missing self-signature
gpg: Total number processed: 1
gpg: w/o user IDs: 1
Now this was a highly unsatisfactory error message. Yes, there was a
problem in that the self-signature was lacking. But that's not a show
stopper. The error message "invalid subkey binding" was just greek to
me. In the end, the key import did not work.
Even though these messages didn't say this, I wondered whether it had
something to do with the wrong datetime. So I just let 6442 seconds go
by. After this delay, I got:
gpg: armor header: Version: GnuPG v1.2.0 (GNU/Linux)
gpg: pub 1024D/DC8080CB 2002-12-18 Ila Patnaik <[email protected]>
gpg: key DC8080CB: public key "Ila Patnaik <[email protected]>" imported
gpg: Total number processed: 1
gpg: imported: 1
Ow! What an awful set of error messages there were earlier!!
I thought I should file this as a bug report. Hope it helps.
