Hello!
I did following things:
1) Installation of debian woody from official debian installation cds WITHO=
UT=20
setting hostname (hoping I can do this later)
2) Making an update to sarge (sid), which caused an update to=20
initscripts_2.85-22_i386.deb
3) creating /etc/hostname=20
4) reboot
at this time:
as root, calling=20
hostname
returns=20
(none)
calling=20
hostname -F /etc/hostname
hostname
returns the correct hostname
I investigated, that following files are missing, which normaly belong to=20
initscripts:
/etc/init.d/hostname.sh
/etc/rcS.d/S40hostname.sh
=46urthermore,=20
dpkg --force-overwrite -i initscripts_2.85-22_i386.deb
cannot resolv the problem, although I found /etc/init.d/hostname.sh whithin=
=20
the data.tar.gz archive, included in the package.
Is it possible, that the installation process prevents the installation of=
=20
hostname.sh and the configuration by initscripts.preinst (which should=20
create /etc/rcS.d/S40hostname.sh), if /etc/hostname does not exist?
