Package: foomatic-db
Version: 20030606-1
The pcl3 driver of Gs-esp (7.05.6-2) and gs-gnu (7.07-1) fails for a
HP-DeskJet_500C with the following error message:
? pcl3: The HP DeskJet 500C does not support setting a dry time.
Unrecoverable error: rangecheck in .putdeviceprops
And I guess the pcl3 driver is right. When I disable the dry time statement
from the gs command line, everything is fine.
I installed the foomatic driver with:
> foomatic-configure -n caepc08pcl -d pcl3 -p HP-DeskJet_500C
The ppd file goes to /etc/cups/ppd.
The command:
> foomatic-rip -P caepc08pcl foo.ps
executes the failing gs statement:
> gs -q -dBATCH -dPARANOIDSAFER -dQUIET -dNOPAUSE \
-sDEVICE=pcl3 -r300x300 -sSubdevice=hpdj500c -sColorModel=Gray \
-sMedium=0 -dDryTime=10 -sIntensityRendering=halftones \
-dRasterGraphicsQuality=0 -dDITHERPPI=60 -dMaxBitmap
? pcl3: The HP DeskJet 500C does not support setting a dry time.
Unrecoverable error: rangecheck in .putdeviceprops
AFAIK: The pcl3 drytime statement has its origin in the file:
/usr/share/foomatic/db/source/opt/218.xml
My shorthand solution is to remove the DryTime statement from the
ppd-file. I changed the line:
*FoomaticRIPOptionPrototype DryTime: " -dDryTime=%s"
to
*FoomaticRIPOptionPrototype DryTime: ""
The second and perhaps nicer solution is to comment out the whole block in
the ppd file beginning with:
*OpenUI *DryTime/Ink Drying Time (sec): PickOne
and ending with:
*CloseUI: *DryTime
My system:
Debian unstable _Sid_ (23072003)
libc6 2.3.2-4
kernel 2.4.20-xfs

Christian

Hi Christian, and thanks for your bugreport,
as far as I can say, this is fixed since (at least) february 2005.
The command-lines you provided in the 208138 bugreport can today be run
without error, so I am hereby closing this bugreport. Please re-open if the
problem is still current.
Cheers,
OdyX
