Since upgrading to GNOME 3 yesterday, I now find that network-manager
is unable to connect to a VPN. The message in .xsession-errors is:

I don't have the faintest idea how to revert to the former behaviour.

Yeah, you need a display manager which integrates properly with
ConsoleKit: atm your options are: gdm3, kdm or lightdm.
Not really a bug in netork-manager(-gnome), so closing.
