Package: aptitude
Version: 0.2.11.1-3
Severity: normal
I have a testing system on which I have installed openssh from unstable
to fix the recent security problem. This broke some dependencies but
was working fine otherwise.
Now I installed the ntop package using "aptitude install ntop". While
installing ntop aptitude removed the ssh package -- without a warning!
Note that I don't mind if aptitude complains about the broken package
or even refuses to do anything, but it cannot be silent first and then
without confirmation remove important packages.
Session log:
gandalf:/home/wh# aptitude install ntop

Hello,
Sorry for having the bug unattended for so long, there's now an
ongoing effort to bring the list of bugs of aptitude up to date.
This bug is somewhat invalid, since the claim that it removes packages
"without saying so" is not correct, as other previous commenter says:
The following packages are BROKEN:
ssh
...
0 packages upgraded, 3 newly installed, 1 to remove and 52 not upgraded.
Thus closing the bug report now.
Regards.
