Hi,
Consider adding a Debconf option to enable support for dving globally.
Currently the README documents a method to turn it on per user, but not
globally.
1) I suggest a two-tier process for Debconf.
a) Check if dvipng is installed. If it is not installed, print an
informational screen explaining what it is, recommend the admin to install
it and
# dpkg-reconfigure preview-latex
to enable globally.
b) If it is installed, then go ahead and configure it globally (assuming
this is possible).
2) The above may be undesirable for reasons that have not occurred to me. In
that case, consider documenting in README.Debian:
a) How to enable dvipng locally. You could just point to the README.
b) How to enable globally. In this case, consider putting the appropriate
lines in the appropriate file, commenting them out and pointing people to
that file in the REAME.Debian.
