Subject: aptitude: Generic grouping method based on search criterion
X-Mailer: reportbug 1.50

Package: aptitude
Version: 0.2.11.1-3
Severity: wishlist
Even though I am (was ?) quite happy with dselect, I test new apt/dpkg
interfaces from time to time. This time, it was aptitude and it really
rocks. Replaces both apt-get and dselect, and in a very efficient and
pleasing manner. Really nice work.
The functionnality of DisplayLimiting is very valuable for me, and I
think it could be used to define new grouping categories (Virtual Grouping
Categories), taking a research criterion as parameter and not dealing
with the duplicates problem. Thus a policy like
filter("Virtual packages",~v),filter("New packages",~N)
could be used to define virtual groups. It cannot be used to emulate
all the default grouping policies, but it would be very useful.
I could define a theme with a different DisplayLimit value for each, but
it is not as convenient.
Thanks.
