Subject: aptitude: config file updating programs (key z - exit and examine the
file) cannot get back to aptitude by 'fg'

Package: aptitude
Version: 0.2.11.1-3
Severity: normal

First of all: if you believe this is dpkg's fault, feel free to reassign.

Problem Example:

Setting up console-tools (0.2.3dbs-26) ...

Configuration file /etc/console-tools/config'
==> Modified (by you or by a script) since installation.
==> Package distributor has shipped an updated version.
What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:
    Y or I : install the package maintainer's version
    N or O : keep your currently-installed version
D : show the differences between the versions
Z : background this process to examine the situation
The default action is to keep your current version.
*** config (Y/I/N/O/D/Z) [default=N] ?

*** config (Y/I/N/O/D/Z) [default=N] ? z
Don't forget to foreground (`fg') this process when you're done !

[1]+ Stopped dpkg --configure -a

#

When I'm finished and give fg, then I get back the aptitude download
(finished) screen and not dpkg, and I lose dpkg's screen and what happens.
Only solution is ^C and dpkg --configure --pending (or restart aptitude's
install, of course, which ends up the same way at the next occurence).

I don't try to guess why exactly that happens or the solution, you are
probably more familiar with the inners of screen changes than my humble self.

I notice, however, that dpkg's behaviour on Z changes more often than
weather (sometimes it needs 'exit', sometimes 'fg', and it used to tell
about the filenames which disappeared now), so I'm not completely sure who
to "blame". It's all probably logical, deep down there somewhere.
