Package: apper
Version: 0.7.0-1
Severity: important

Contrary to other package managers like Synaptic, apper launches a process owned by the user without asking for root authentication. This has advantages, but requires to prompt for credentials when trying to manipulate packages (for example, when installing or removing a package).

Apparently, apper does not do that. Unless apper is run as root, manipulation attempts fail with

You have failed to provide correct authentication.
Please check any passwords or account settings.

Failed to obtain authentication.

A workaround is to run apper with kdesu. However, this didn't work the first time I tried it (the window came up grey). I'm not sure why, but it's working now (after starting it with sux).

Okay. This might be a problem in the KDE metapackage, which should
ship the Polkit agent.
To make sure that it is installed in next releases, I'll make Apper
recommend it.
Cheers,
