Package: less
Version: 444-1
Severity: wishlist

With search commands, less should be able to display a configurable
number of (physical) context lines before a pattern match. This number
could be any nonnegative integer (dynamically bounded by the terminal
height - 1), possibly 0 for the current behavior.

The context lines could be displayed in some different style (e.g. a
different background).

I'm closing this bug because the -j option provides the needed
feature. It's not restricted to search commands, though, but I think
it is better like that. The only practical problem I've found is the
spurious lines before the file when going to line 1. I've reported
it here:

  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=763631

and upstream to bug-less (also on October 1, 2014) as said in the
less(1) man page. But I haven't received any reply yet.
