Package: libpam-ldap
Version: 140-1
Hi,
the handling of md5 passwords seems somewhat broken with pam_ldap. With
the line
pam_password md5
in /etc/pam_ldap.conf, a md5 password is generated:
myhost:/etc# passwd ldap1
New UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
LDAP password information changed for ldap1
passwd: password updated successfully
myhost:/etc#
As can be seen with getent shadow, the password is correctly updated.
The user ldap1 can also log in, but any attempt to change his password
fails:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/ldap1$ passwd
Enter login(LDAP) password:
LDAP password incorrect: try again
Enter login(LDAP) password:
...etc...
It seems pam_ldap is unable to verify the current password (at least,
this is the only difference I can see between root and a normal user
changing the user's password).
In addition, I suggest the documentation be updated; in
/usr/share/doc/README, the md5 option is documented, while in the
manpage, it isn't.
Thanks & best regards,
Jan Harnisch

Greetings,
This isn't really a bug and the documentation change has been done in
recent versions.
Thanks,
Stephen
