Please consider raising perl's priority to important (and the same for
the packages it depends on). I'll followup with the full list later as I
had it only in emacs's scratch buffer a few days ago...

The Priority: required and essential package perl-base ships the perl
executable and some modules, but its content is not well defined (from
what I understand it is mostly what debconf needs).

I think perl meets the reuirement that it is expected to be installed by
people familar with UNIX and we should provide the full version of perl
by default instead of an ill-defined subset.

Note that this increases the size Priority: important quite a bit, but I
think in practice most systems will have perl anyway. And there's othing
stopping people to remove it for truly minimal systems.

Also note that (according to perl's changelog) the package was Priority:
important in the past, though the changelog doesn't mention when or why
the priority was reduced to standard.

I no longer think this is the right direction.
