Package: rxvt
Version: 1:2.6.4-6
Severity: normal

Hi
I'm finding that running rxvt with a -e argument that requires a shell
to parse it causes rxvt to die with SIGSEGV or SIGCHLD (randomly, it
seems). For example,

rxvt -e "telnet uk"
fails but
rxvt -e /usr/bin/telnet uk
does not.

rxvt -e "bash" works fine, but
rxvt -e "bash -c top" does not.
rxvt -e "top" works, though. Strange, eh?

It does seem to be whenever rxvt invokes a shell to parse the -e
argument that the problems set in. You can get a couple of straces from
http://www.postnewspapers.com.au/~craig/rxvt-straces.tar.gz
if thats likely to be useful.

I've tried all the same commands in gnome-terminal and all work fine, so
it does seem to be rxvt-specific.

I've just realized, of course, that all the commands I've listed work
well if not quoted, so the issue appears to be in the parser for the -e
argument. Hrmm... looks -e is not supposed to be used with a quoted
string for an argument (whoops). Still, I've seen this usage before and
it might be an idea to identify it in the -e parser and complain (or
handle it) rather than silently failing.

Feel free to mail me if you need more info, and I'll see what
I can do (if you can't reproduce it that is).

Sorry to bother you if its an issue already covered, but I didn't see
anything in the BTS.

Thank you for your bug report. As rxvt has been replaced by rxvt-unicode in
Debian, I am closing this bug. If you can still reproduce this bug with urxvt,
please feel free to reopen this bug and reassign it to the rxvt-unicode package.

Best wishes,
Ryan
