Package: firestarter
Version: 1.0.1-1
Severity: normal
I have a laptop with a built-in 802.11b wireless NIC and a 10/100 wired
NIC, which get assigned device names eth0 and eth1. I never use this
laptop as a network bridge. Sometimes, I connect the machine to a
network wirelessly and sometimes using the wired connection, so both
devices should be considered Internet-facing. However, Firestarter
assumes that only one of them connects to the Internet, and that the
world connects to me through the other device.
If Firestarter is configured to believe that eth0 is internet-facing, then I can
not get a DHCP address via eth1 until I run Firestarter's config dialog to
reconfigure it. This is a significant usability issue that is
compounded by the fact that between discover, /etc/modules, and hotplug,
the devices are not deterministicly named at startup (ie, on some boots
the wireless NIC will be eth0 and the wired NIC will be eth1, on other
boots the names are reversed).
