Package: nfs-common
Severity: wishlist
After a short (mail) discussion with C.Salzenberg, it seems a good idea to
suggest some sort of FAQ for nfs; the discussion was about
nfs-kernel-server, but I feel it is more related to nfs-common (same
maintainer anyway); here are some example of Q/A to put into (hope it is
correct):
Q: why does my nfs server keep a directory busy, while all clients
unmounted it?
A: the server is not always notified when a client unmounts.
Q: why is nfs inefficient to export removable media?
A: because it doesn't export the directory as a path, but as a physical
position
on a disk.
Q: can I unexport/reexport directories without restarting the whole server?
A: yes, using the exportfs(8) command; see the man page for precisions.
JP
PS: thanks again to CS for its valuable answers!

Four years later, it seems we actually have one now:
http://nfs.sourceforge.net/
http://nfs.sourceforge.net/nfs-howto/
Followups should probably go there; I'm closing this bug. :-)
