Package: openjdk-6-jre
Version: 6b14-1.5~pre1-5
Severity: normal

Hi,

the icons corresponding to openjdk-6-policytool.desktop and
openjdk-6-javaws.desktop are displayed by default in the menus; the
former in the settings menu, the latter in the internet menu.

However, the “policy tool” has absolutely nothing to do with the desktop
settings. Furthermore I don’t see any of these tools do anything useful
for the average user. The settings and internet menus are already too
large, and we try to shrink the number of applications in them. It takes
lots of effort to improve configuration applets just to remove one
entry, and it takes only five minutes to add a useless java-specific
entry by installing the Java browser plugin.

Please add NoDisplay=true entries to both desktop files so that they are
not displayed by default. This setting can be changed per-user with a
menu editor for those knowing what they are doing.

Another option is to add a "NotShowIn=GNOME;" entry, and to ask the KDE
and Xfce maintainers if they want KDE and Xfce to be listed here as
well.

Hi,

openjdk-6 was last released with Debian 7.0 (wheezy), which had its LTS
support end nearly a year ago and which has now been archived.
I'm therefore closing the remaining openjdk-6 bugs, assuming they are no
longer relevant for newer (and still supported) openjdk releases.

Andreas
