Hi.

I'm pretty sure this is a quite common problem already reported but couldn't
manage to find an existing report. Sorry in advance for potential duplicate.

I'm using xrandr/gnome-display-properties to use my laptop together with an
external secondary display.

I have two vertical panels on my main/primary (laptop's internal screen) on
left and right edges.

When in dual-screen mode, maximized windows on this primary screen are
overlapped (appear under) the right-most panel (which is then "in the middle"
of the dual screen).

This is quite annoying, as I have to manually resize all windows so that they
cover the full space between the 2 panels, but nevertheless aren't covered by
the right panel.

I noticed a similar report for KDE in
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=167852 even though I doubt it uses the
same technology exactly (maybe the same code after all, who knows).

Borrowing the diagram from the KDE report :

[------------][------------]
|P          P||            |
|P    1     P||     2      |
|P          P||            |
[------------][------------]

So the Ps represent my panels, and the maximized windows will appear bellow the
one in the middle (right-most of screen 1).

I hope this is more explicit with such diagram.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

This is fixed in metacity 3.35.1, now available in experimental.

However it also requires changes in gnome-panel and ideally in GTK.
