I'm using Debian GNU/kFreeBSD under VMWare.
I'm using DHCP mode for the guest to get the IP address.
The guest machine gets the IP address but doesn't have a gateway.
No where in the logs I see the gateway information being mentioned.
Manually adding the gateway using the route works perfect.
I'm not sure if it has anything to do with configuration files in the
dhcp3-client package

Sorry, closing the bug as it was a problem in VMWare's dhcpd server.
VMWare Workstation starts its own dhcpd server when you use NAT and Host-Only
Networking. For Bridged mode you don't exactly need a dhcpd server unless
your host machine is also allocated the IP by some other dhcpd server.
The problem was in the dhcdp config file for Host-Only Networking where the
dhcpd server wasn't providing the proper router information to the clients.
I manually changed them and now it works perfect.
